All drivers learn that if they\u00a0become part of a collision of any severity, they need to pull off to the side of the road to deal with it. Unfortunately, many drivers still engage in hit-and-runs, and you need to\u00a0file a claim<\/a> immediately if you ever become involved in one.<\/p>\n

Hit-and-runs are significantly more dangerous if you are a pedestrian. You may have sustained severe injuries<\/a>, but there are still steps you need to take to take care of yourself and ensure the person who drove off sees justice.<\/p>\n

Contact the police<\/strong><\/p>\n

You, or someone close by, should\u00a0call 911 right away. The police will come out to create an official report. An ambulance will come out to take you to the hospital. Even if you feel fine, you should still receive an official examination. Doctors will be able to determine if there are any internal injuries to address.<\/p>\n

Gather evidence<\/strong><\/p>\n

While you wait for the police, you should attempt to collect evidence you can use for your future insurance claim and lawsuit. The best piece of evidence you can get is the license plate number of the vehicle that struck you. If you did not catch it, then speak with any eyewitnesses to see if they saw anything. In the event no one could make out the plate, even just a portion of it will help immensely. It is also beneficial to take note of the make, model and color of the\u00a0vehicle.<\/p>\n

Report the incident to your insurance provider<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though you do not have the other person\u2019s insurance information, you should still contact your insurance provider shortly after the hit-and-run. If you have uninsured\/underinsured coverage, then your coverage should include hit-and-run cases, too.
