Unfortunately, studies indicate that some areas of medicine seem to be less adept at keeping their patients informed of the risks \u2014 or perhaps, they are simply less willing to do so.<\/p>\n<p>At least one study indicates that plastic surgeons are responsible for around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21929499\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">57 percent<\/a> of complaints about a lack of informed consent. Since cosmetic surgery is quite often a matter of desire, not necessity, it\u2019s very possible that plastic surgeons are hesitant to bring up the complications that can follow a procedure that doesn\u2019t go as planned. Giving a patient too much negative information could potentially scare off a sizable percentage of the clientele, which is naturally bad for the business.<\/p>\n<p>In other situations, the doctor may simply forget that it is his or her role to make sure that the patient is properly informed of the risks \u2014 not the responsibility of the nurse who hands the patient the paperwork to sign.
