Ohio’s 6 New Laws Now in Effect—What You Need to Know
As reported by NBC4i’s Maeve Walsh in the article “All about six new laws in Ohio that go into effect today,” several important laws signed by Governor Mike DeWine are now in effect across the state. These new measures address school policy, drunk driving penalties, and disciplinary actions in public education.
Among the most prominent changes is House Bill 8, also known as the “Parents’ Bill of Rights.” This law mandates that all Ohio school districts adopt policies allowing students to attend off-site religious classes during the school day. These classes must be off-campus, have parental permission, and cannot use school resources. Schools must also adopt new procedures ensuring parents can review certain classroom content related to gender or sexual topics and be notified if their child seeks to change pronouns or names at school.
