Worker killed in hydraulic press accident in Columbus, Ohio
When you head to work, you expect to be safe on the job. If you’re new at the job, you want to know that you’ve been told everything possible about how to stay safe. If you’re hurt because of your employer’s negligence or lack of safety standards, it’s important to understand your right to workers’ compensation. You shouldn’t have to worry about paying for medical bills or making up lost wages. If you pass away in an incident, these same benefits may help your family recover financial losses.
This is an example of an incident that took a worker’s life too soon. Recently, a worker in west Columbus was crushed to death when he was caught in a hydraulic press. Authorities have stated that the man, a 60-year-old, was working in the press area with a co-worker at the time of the accident. It was just after 5:00 a.m. when the man’s head was crushed leading to catastrophic injuries.
The police stated that it was miscommunication that may have led to the incident; the Columbus Police Department does not think the death was suspicious. Officers have said they aren’t planning to press charges and have determined that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Bureau of Workers’ Compensation should take over the investigation.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has records that show that the business had a number of serious violations over the course of the last two years. There have not been details on what those violations were or if they involved the hydraulic press involved in this incident.
