Understanding the Different Types of Birth Injuries
As reported by Cerebral Palsy Guide in their article “What to Know About Different Types of Birth Injuries,” childbirth should be a moment of celebration, but complications during pregnancy, labor, or delivery can sometimes result in birth injuries. While some of these incidents are unavoidable, others may be caused by preventable medical mistakes.
Birth injuries vary in severity. Minor injuries might include superficial bruising or swelling, while more serious conditions—such as cerebral palsy, Erb’s palsy, or brain damage due to oxygen deprivation—can have lifelong effects. These more severe injuries often stem from complications that occur during labor and delivery, including delayed cesarean sections, improper use of forceps or vacuum extractors, or failure to monitor the baby’s vital signs properly.
